Nigo, the first pieces soon in store.
Born in Japan in 1970, Nigo, whose real name is Tomoaki Nagao, graduated from the Bunka Fashion Institute in 1993, the year he created A Bathing Ape or BAPE, a brand that would become iconic in the world of streetwear over the years. A true visionary, Nigo will be the artistic director until 2013, when the brand will be acquired by IT Limited.
DJ of the Japanese hip-hop group Teriakyi Boyz, Nigo has made a name for himself in the music industry. The group's debut album, "Beef or Chicken", was produced by Def Jam Records and BAPE sounds, Nigo's company. It included artists such as Daft Punk and Mark Ronson. Since then, the group has collaborated with Jay-Z, Kanye West, Pharrell and even has two titles on the Fast and Furious soundtrack including Toyko Drift.
More recently Nigo found himself at the head of projects with Kid Cudi, ASAP Rocky or even Lil Uzi Vert.
The LVMH brand founded in 1970 by the Japanese Kenzo Takada, who died last October, announced in the spring of 2021 that after two years its contract with the Portuguese designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista would end in June.
His replacement was announced on September 15, 2021: Nigo will take care of Kenzo's artistic direction
“I was born the year Takada Kenzo opened his first boutique in Paris. We both graduated from the same fashion school in Tokyo. In 1993, the year Kenzo joined the LVMH group, I started my career in fashion,” explained Nigo after his appointment.
Faithful to the creative and unique approach of the brand, Nigo is preparing to bring Kenzo's know-how to life while adding its modern and innovative vision.
We can't wait to receive the first pieces in store, they shouldn't be long.
